A Revolutionary Vision

Documentary Projects:
Rescue the Beauty, Ordinary Heroes, and Don't Cry for Me

The entire world knows the bleak condition and desperate need of Africa. However, statistically few people do anything to contribute to the cause. The majority of news and relief organizations have begun to call citizens to action by deliberate and precise manipulation of guilt. Guilt, however, does not last. As a result, the harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few.

Revolutionary Media is pioneering African media that is stylistically artistic and beautiful, but also journalistically true and real. Shunning a gospel of guilt, these projects will cause viewers to fall in love with the African Beauty of Kenya. As we illustrate how this beauty is in danger, every ordinary hero will be motivated to come to its rescue.

In cooperation with artists from The Institute in Photographic Studies, Rocky Farm Studios, and the Aperture Project, Revolutionary Media is setting out on a mission of motivation into Nairobi, Kenya. Through photography and video, Revolutionary Studios will create three documentaries that will provide a motivating expose of the life of destitute orphans in Nairobi, Kenya and the compassionate local believers who are combating that condition.

Using Nairobi as it’s setting, Revolutionary Media will highlight ways Christian young people can minister in both a local and international setting. Every Christian has the capacity to change the world. The purpose of these documentaries is for every view to discover a vision of how they can reach out to their desperate and dying world as Jesus’ hands and feet.

The documentaries will provide long-term awareness and support to the Motherly Care Children's Home, Jubilee Children’s Center, and Child of Destiny orphanage homes. The documentaries will also encourage Christian young people to reach out to their communities locally and around the world.

Sponsorship for a World Wide Vision

Revolution Media is looking for sponsors who are willing to finance the airfare, transportation, housing and meals component of the project. For each team member, this is estimated roughly at $2,000.

The non-sponsorship component costs include: travel insurance, equipment, tools, and administrative costs. The creative team is operating on a volunteer basis, giving of their time during the shooting and postproduction work, as well as financing remaining trip costs.

We estimate that over 4 Kenyan ministries, 500 orphans, and hundreds of Nairobi volunteers will be directly impacted by the creative team short term, and thousands will be effected long term.

(A). Core Team Sponsorship: Abbreviated sponsorship breakdown for 7 team members during the 3-week trip is as follows:

Airfare to Nairobi Kenya through NYC - $9,800

In country transportation - $700

In country housing and meals - $3,500

Team Sponsorship Budget - $14,000

*Partial sponsorship is gratefully accepted

(B). Individual Sponsorship: Abbreviated sponsorship breakdown for 1 team member during the 3-week trip is as follows:

Airfare to Nairobi Kenya through NYC - $1,400

In country transportation - $100

In country housing and meals - $500

Individual Sponsorship Budget - $2,000

*Partial sponsorship is gratefully accepted

A Cry for Rescue

In 2005, Kenya’s AIDs orphans alone totaled more than 10 million. The orphan community of Nairobi comprises nearly 2 million of the cities entire population of 30 million and roughly 500,000 are orphans living on the streets. These orphans come from a variety of backgrounds including AIDs, desertion, and rebel killings.

The crisis of the Kenyan orphans has reached a high in recent years, and is expected to increase by the year 2010. While aid from Samaritans’ Purse, Persecution Project, and Mercy Corps contributes, by 2010, AIDs is expected to be the cause of nearly 2/3rds of the entire orphan population.

In an effort to squelch the rise of destitute and unprotected orphans, local Kenyan believers throughout Nairobi began orphanages to provide for those living on the street. Dozens of orphanages in Nairobi are aiming to care and provide for these orphans – most under the age of 15 years. Not only do these orphanages provide basic needs for the upbringing of these children, but also they seek to provide education, the opening of future opportunities and the love of Christ.

The next generations of Kenyans are being wiped out by poverty, disease, malnutrition, exposure to the elements, and exploitation. Unless significant change is made in the current condition, the next generation of Kenyans will not survive.

Orphanages in Nairobi are in need of support from their fellow believers around the world. Potential support can be given through the provision of necessities including nutritional and educational needs either by direct or fiscal donations; support can also be given by Christians giving of their own time through volunteering, either with office work in the States, or a short term or extended stay at the orphanage itself. The methods of support are insignificant, but what is important is that young people who desire to be Jesus hands and feet give love and attention to these orphans and the organizations that serve them.

Greater support for the Nairobi orphan condition has the potential to save the next generation of Kenyans. As Christian believers rescue these beautiful orphans from the fires of poverty and exploitation, we anticipate that they will grow and be raised up in the love of God, resulting in a revival throughout the entire nation of Kenya.

Calling the Next Generation of Christian Heroes

Young people of this century are bombarded every day by temptations to live a life in pursuit of temporal and carnal gain. Success is defined by the attainment of a glamorous lifestyle had by the great names of Hollywood. Though young people of America have the fulfillment of their basic needs, most continue to live motivated by selfishness. This generation is falling prey to apathy, and may be the greatest generation to waste the potential impact of their lives. Rather than asking God for a vision for their lives, they ask Oprah and Friends. Instead of allowing Jesus to live His life in and through them, this generation follows the trends of post-modern culture.

Because of an extreme lack of genuine sincerity in modern day churches, American young people are disillusioned. The Christian young people of this day are not content to live complacent lives and as a result, fall prey to extremes passion in sports, fashion, education, and not in Christ. According to findings published in a UCLA dissertation, between 30 and 51% of Christians renounce their faith before graduating from college. That means one out of two professing Christian youth are turning their backs on the 18 years of Christian instruction from their homes and churches and embracing the atheistic ideas of their professors. In a study by Joshua McDowell, 74% of church kids cheat on tests, 93% lie to their parents, 63% become physically violent when angry, and 64% believe that you can do “good things” to earn your way to heaven. It is obvious that Christian young people are seriously distracted from the things of heaven.

Revolutionary Media will use its documentaries as a platform for three goals directed to the modern Christian youth culture: 1) Show the need for passionate believers who are willing to be Jesus hands and feet; 2) Provide inspiration for these young people to step outside their small perspective to impact their own world; and 3) Give information that will allow them to volunteer using their own gifts, callings, and abilities.

The Shooting Plan

The documentaries projects will last 3 weeks in length, from March 11th – April 4th, 2008. During these three weeks, two core teams will be launched to work separately on one of the two documentaries. In each team there will be 1-2 videographers, 1-2 photojournalists, and 1-3 interns.

Each week, team members will interact with, engage, and interview the orphans and staff of Kenyan Orphanages in Nairobi. Research will include the greatest needs of each organization, histories of the orphans, background of the volunteers, provision of God for the organization, and the calling for those who will partake in the harvest. The data collected will be sorted each week and organized by project, and then media usage.

The postproduction of Revolutionary Media projects including video and print materials will be concluded by July 2008. The documentaries will be submitted to the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, and other prestigious Christian film festivals throughout the country.
